Ruth
A Moabite of loyalty and faith
A Moabite widow whose loyalty wove her into the line of David, and of Christ.
Ruth was a Moabite woman who married into an Israelite family living in Moab. When her husband died, she refused to leave her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi, and returned with her to Bethlehem.
There she gleaned in the fields of a kinsman named Boaz, who redeemed and married her. Their great-grandson was King David, placing Ruth, a foreigner known for her loyalty, in the lineage of Jesus.
“Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.”Ruth 1:16
