Apostle to the Gentiles
Once a persecutor of the church, he became its most far-reaching missionary and letter-writer.
Paul began as Saul, a devout Pharisee who persecuted the early Christians. On the road to Damascus he met the risen Christ and was completely changed.
As the apostle to the Gentiles, he planted churches across the Roman world on several long missionary journeys and wrote much of the New Testament in his letters. He spent his final years in prison and, by tradition, was martyred in Rome.
