Old Testament
Elijah
Prophet of fire and the still small voice
A bold prophet who called down fire on Mount Carmel, then met God in a whisper.
In a time of idolatry, Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, where God answered his prayer with fire from heaven.
Afterward, exhausted and afraid, he fled into the wilderness and asked to die. There God met him, not in wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a still small voice. In the end he was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind.
“And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”1 Kings 19:12
